Inquiry: Tie Dye Milk Experiment

Today, all of Piako came into Lc1 to do an experiment. We put drops of dye in the milk and then added a drop of dish washing liquid. The dye spread to the sides and mixed in together. It was amazing!!!! The milk has a skin on it which pulls tight into the middle. The dish washing liquid broke the skin which caused the dye drops to scatter to the sides and mix together. It's called surface tension. We were all very stunned and enjoyed doing the experiment. We feel like we learnt a lot, especially about surface tension. Here are some photos of us in action!!
